Day 55 - Ticonderoga

We made it to camp 5 miles south of Ticonderoga.

We left the Adirondacks but not without seeing some great country.

We also saw Teddy Roosevelt in Newcomb where this little community was celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the NPS. We supported the local school by eating apple pie.
And we ran into road construction. Steve and Terry decided to walk through the gravel.

In one week we'll be in Bar Harbor eating lobster.

Day 53/54 - Osceola & Blue Mt Lake

Sorry for not posting but there was no cell coverage the last two nights.

Friday we left Lk Ontario and entered the Adirondacks. Fall is afoot in upstate New York. A local said the leaves came out just a few days ago. We see a difference each day. We'll be at Ticonderoga tonight. Enjoy the pics.
Tom and then Terry with a huge apple orchard in the background. There are many large orchards in upstate NY.

Day 49/50 & 51 - Rest & The Erie Canal @ Holley

On our rest day at Niagara we spent most of our time on the Canadian side. We saw lots of selfie poses like this one.

We started riding again and welcome Mingni and Beth to the riding team and Kate to assisting Rhett with the RV Sag Wagon. BTW Rhett is amazing, always having ice cold beverages at the end of a day of riding and much more. Here's the riding team at second breakfast. Where's Bill?  He's probably getting ice cream or pastries.

And, drum roll, we rode along the Erie Canal.

One more thing - we could very well end up in the Lockport Journal. Keep your eye out for our picture at lockportjournal.com

Day 46, 47, 48 - ST Thomas, Peacock Point & Niagara Falls

I woke up yesterday to the tat, tat, tat of large raindrops hitting my tent.  The shower did not last long but made packing the tent, now pretty soggy, a wet job.  We were on the road by about 8:30, and just as we did, it rained hard.  We took shelter under the eaves of the registration area for the Haldiman Conservation Area where we had camped.  After twenty minutes the rain subsided but the roads were plenty wet so we got good and damp from the spray while riding.  You'd think that our day would have been sort of miserable, we got rained on hard once and sprinkled on throughout the day.  But it was one of the most memorable days so far.

These past three days, riding along the shores of Lake Erie were astounding.  We rode through many communities and lots of houses or summer cabins along the shore.  It reminded us of the Pacific with small rolling waves hitting the shore but there was no salt water smell.  The sweeping views were tinged with the white waves and a little farther back by the first color from Jack Frost on the surrounding trees.  We rode through crunchy and then soggy leaves that had fallen to the road.

We rode along the lake for sixty miles and came around the corner at the Niagara River to see Buffalo, NY across the water.  That took us by surprise as did the water rushing into the channel from Lake Erie.  We watched a fairly good sized cruiser chug its way up river to the lake as we ate outside at a restaurant right along the river.

It took us nearly 20 more miles of riding along a bumpy and winding trail to get to the falls.  On a bike you hear it before you see it.  It's different riding up on something like the falls on a bike.  First, we rode roughly 3292 miles to get here.  That in itself is sort of crazy.  But riding up on a bike is sort of like sneaking up on the white giant, as if one could.  Nothing gets by the water plunging over the edge to the depths below.  And with the falls comes New York, our 8th state.

Day 45 - " O Canada, eh?"

Just letting our followers know we're entering Canada today. So, connecting to the Internet may be problematic. We'll be back in the US Saturday.

We've ridden 3000 miles to Emmett, Michigan!
We've stopped for second breakfast in St. Claire and are about 10 miles from the ferry in Marine City that will take us across the St. Claire River to Canada.

Day 43/Rest Day & Day 44 - Bay City to Brown City

As promised here are a few more pictures of Bay City and our rest day.  Turns out there are very nice beaches on Lake Huron at Bay City Recreation Area.

Then today we rode out of Bay City and found Frankenmuth, a Bavarian style community similar to Leavenworth in Washington.  We enjoyed the bakery as you can see.
Here Terry and Steve had their next Christmas picture taken.
We discovered a covered bridge, "Holz Brucke."

And the streets were decorated with flowers.

And we are fortunate to have a resident photographer along, Tom.  Here is a great shot taken on one of the Michigan lakes.

And did I mention that we are staying at a Missionary Church Camp Ground?  Here's Terry talking about that.
