We missed you Tom but we needed this training ride more than you. The gangs all here. The Hendricks are filling in for Tom and Rhett.
Yakima River Canyon ride from Ellensburg. Terrible head wind the last 15-20 miles. It was a 50 mile day. Sunday, May 22, 2016

May Already
May Day is tomorrow. My last post was earlier this month; time really does fly. In April our count down timer went past the 100 day and 3 month (ninety day) mark. I met my cycling goal but it was a mere 200 miles. I got our tandem and my single bike serviced at R&E cycle and both are in great working order. Great weather is predicted this weekend and next so it's time to ride.
A friend from work put me on to Tyler Metcalfe who quite his job as a National Geographic Photographer to ride solo across the country. Info about his ride can be found here. His route is the TransAmerica Bike Trail. Adventure Cycling established the route in 1976. Our route is AC's most northern route from Anacortes, WA (we're actually starting at Deception Pass State Park) to Bar Harbor, ME.
So I've got to stop typing and start riding while the sun is out.

Training Ride - Yuma, Arizona
Rented Mt. Bikes in Yuma. Rode along the canals today and Carol's foot felt real good. Rode among the date palms and stopped in at Martha's Garden for a date shake. Oh and by the way, we rented the bikes at Mr. B's. Did to know that Charlie had a bike shop in Yuma! :)

January - Let's start training . . .
Under two hundred days until the trip. Between now and July 25 I will turn 62 and "retire", again. People who follow Christ pprobably never really retire. We just move into another aspect of our callling. I will admit I'm not going to miss getting dressed up for work early on a cold Monday morning. The current temperature is 27.
It's time to start training. I'm shooting for five days a week right now. Three days of fit club and two days of spinning. I made four days last week which is four more days than I did during the Christmas break.
I started to look at possible campgrounds. Day one campiing will be one of the best campgrounds. It is Howard Miller Steelhead Park along the Skagit River in Rockport, Washington. I've camped there and ridden that particular route backwards to Anacortes. Several of our group have ridden a portion of the route through the North Cascades. That portion of the ride plus Libby, MT to Whitefish are the only parts where we've got people who have ridden the route before.

I'm so looking forward to July 25.
